Substandard landscaping practices and inattentiveness to a neighborhood’s lawns and gardens can create common grounds that lack curb appeal and look unkempt. Any landscaping company can cut the grass in your community. However, not every landscaper is prepared to handle plants that require special placement, special fertilization measures, unique pruning procedures, etc. Consequently, you should look to hire a company that specializes in maintaining the types of plants your community contains, or plans on planting. Focus on finding a landscaping company that emphasizes in horticulture in addition to simple grounds maintenance.

2. Special Landscaping Projects

Landscaping needs may encompass more than just the plants. Over time, there may be special projects your community needs to perform, such as implementing new retaining walls, rerouting irrigation systems, creating new drainage paths, etc. The expertise with which these projects are completed can impact the appearance of your community as much as the types of plants it features. Be sure to choose a company that has experience with major landscaping projects.

3. Request Work Samples

Just because a landscaping company specializes in the work you need performed does not guarantee it will do the best job. That is why it’s important to inspect samples of the company’s work before you sign a contract. A company that takes pride in its work should be more than willing to provide you with recent samples of its projects. If you inspect the work and find it to be of high quality, you can feel confident that the company will do the same type of work for you.

4. Terms of Contract

Last but not least, it will be helpful to ensure the business contract includes all of the known landscaping tasks and prospective landscaping projects your company needs the company to cover. Signing an annual contract typically saves more money than hiring a company on a job by job basis.
