Be a Leader of Character

Leadership as “the power or ability to lead other people.” Are the people in charge of your HOA management leaders with character?

History has shown that being a good leader does not mean having high ethical standards. Webster-Merriam defines leadership as “the power or ability to lead other people.” If being a leader is simply using power or ability to lead other people to a common objective, that means a leader could use any means or power they have bestowed upon them to motivate people to achieve what is defined as success in the organization’s mission. The bottom line is;

being a leader is not hard or challenging and many can be a great leader. Give someone power and authority with no moral compass and they can excel as a leader. However, being a leader of character is something few can achieve and those are the ones we want to emulate and follow.

One critical leadership lesson I learned in the military is that your values are your foundation. When times get tough and one is tempted to take shortcuts, the foundation of strong moral values is what will keep one from making mistakes. What are your values? I challenge you to take a moment to look at your values, list them out, and see who you work with, for, and who your business partners are and they should line up similarly with your values.

At RealManage, our values are our foundation: Integrity, Respect, Selflessness, Personal Relationships, and Always Improving. We strive to align our clients we serve, employees, and business partners with our values. The common purpose is for all of us to come together and serve our communities with first class service and strong values as our foundation. There is no limit one can achieve if everyone is aligned with a common purpose and a strong foundation that does not shake up in times of trials and tribulations.

Please take a moment to evaluate your values and make sure you are lining yourself with people who share the same values, because many can be good leaders, but only a few can be a leader of character.
